Millennium Earth Project: A Visual Framework for Sustainable Development
The Millennium Project will contain 6 pillars:
Description GIS Plan
The Institute for Conscious Global Change, Inc. is undertaking a Millennium Earth Project intended to build “A Visual Solution to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”
The purpose of the project is to construct visual representations or maps of the 49 Least Developed Countries (LDCs) from the three areas: Asia, Africa and the Caribbean with 14 in Asia; 34 in Africa and 1 in the Caribbean (Haiti) The first country under construction is Haiti.
Using digital mapping technology (ESRI software- ArcGIS and ArcDesktop) maps of developing countries will be created to show the visual representations of the research data on Haiti’s development being collected. Layers will be created to combine more than one feature of the countries development. For example
1. A map showing the geographic location will be layered with visual information in colors and symbols representing the research data for political areas of Haiti with population (make-up of pop. demographics) and country’s natural resources.
Eradicating Extreme Poverty
Political area and population map of Haiti will be layered with symbols and icons of income distribution of people less than $1 a day from years 1990 to 2015.
Plan:
1. Identify areas of research to be visually represented
2. Identify the data to be combined and layered per map
3. Convert data in excel format
4. Create common symbols for representing each variable to be represented (eg. Population will have one symbol, color, icon that will be consistent in all maps)
5. Create area wise maps for identified data. Combine symbols, icons and information on the map.
6. Export map to .html, .pdf and ArcGIS viewer online
7. Link map to website
